About This Site

This site is meant to be a repository of some of my thoughts and reflections on structural violence and inequality.  The views expressed here are my own and do not necessarily represent the views or policies of any of the organization I work for/with.

Poverty, inequality, violence, and social injustice are common in daily life almost everywhere, and I think a lot of people care about these issues but they are difficult issues to discuss and process and there are forces that exist to keep people from really focusing on these issues.  My hope is to offer my own experiences and perspectives in order to expand others’ scopes of thinking (and in turn perhaps they can expand mine).  I have a lot of strong feelings about injustice and inequality, so it’s my desire that this will be a place where I can express some of my passion and refine my own processes of thought.

I would also like to say that I don’t believe that poverty or injustice are inherently partisan issues.  Structural violence should not be partisan or otherwise controversial to oppose.  I know of no sane person who is in favor of dead babies, or of people starving to death, or dying of sudden cardiac arrest in the prime of life.  That the solutions to these problems may be partisan or politically charged is a given — we can of course debate whether free markets or higher taxes or some other course of action will best address these issues, but that babies should not die is something on which I believe we can all agree.  We should make this agreement and then move forward with passion and purpose to reach a world where we strive to effect outcomes that reflect our mutual value for human life.

As of February 2013 I am redesigning the site to some extent, you so may notice some content is shifting, disappearing, or otherwise not where you’d expect.  Stay tuned.
